"Yeah dat's right I like my girls BBW/type to wanna suck you dry and then eat some lunch with you" Ummmmmmm........OK Drake. I ain't got no receipts, but I'm willing to bet that while we big girls may be extra appreciative of a post-coital snack, no particular body type has the market cornered when it comes to fellatio (side-eye). That being said let's discuss this affinity for BBW's
First of all, what is a BBW? Generally speaking it's an acronym that stands for big beautiful woman, but if you ask ten different people to describe a BBW, you'll get ten different answers. I've asked around and here are some of the answers I got. One of my sources told me that BBW is just a nice way of saying "fat". Someone else told me that BBW is definitely NOT the same as fat. This individual admits that he has a real preference for big beautiful women, In his opinion, Jilly from Philly has the ideal female form. In his words, "She's got meat on her bones.....but she's not overtly
obese." This individual stressed the importance of proportionality in distinguishing his idea of BBW from fat. For him, a BBW still has an hourglass figure (though she may have a few extra hours in her glass).

But what is it about a big beautiful woman that is so enticing to many men (and women)? I got various answers on this as well. More than one person told me that BBW's tend to have the prettiest faces OR as Drake puts it, "Ass on Houston Texas, but the face look just like Claire Huxtable." One dude wanted to make sure that I knew that he's an evolved man who understands that a woman is so much more than the "meat on her bones." So, he made it a point to tell me that he prefers big beautiful women for reasons that have nothing to do with the physical appearance. He shared that in his experience big beautiful women exude a confidence that he rarely sees in women whose bodies conform to the dominant standard of beauty. He admits that he finds this expression of confidence (inside and outside the bedroom) intoxicating. I was intrigued by this take on the subject and just when I was about to praise my friend for being somewhat advanced in his thinking, he added, "plus most big girls can cook too!"
While there are men from all walks of like that desire big women, I've observed that men of color (particularly black men) have a real appreciation for the Rubenesque female form. Have you
ever known a black man who wasn't mesmerized by a pair of thick thighs? Me neither. This love of (or just for) women with a fuller figure is present throughout the African diaspora. Today in parts of West Africa it's a compliment to be called "fat". In Mauritania stretch marks are a sign of beauty and women eat 16,000 calories a day to become suitable for marriage.
A few years ago I vacationed in Jamaica with a girlfriend whose body type is closer to the dominant Euro-Centric standard of beauty than mine. But in Ocho Rios, I was getting all the play. I was affectionately referred to as "Big Batty Gyal!" My friend, well she was called "maga", a term used in Jamaican patois that means skinny,.It's apparently derived from the word "meager" and it's not a compliment.
I for one am glad that us big girls are finally getting some shine in mainstream pop culture, and I've always appreciated the love that we always got in the hood. However, we gotta remember that there's a thin line between admiration and objectification.....between a compliment and a cat call. Fellas, understand that a woman is so much more than the sum of her parts. We are multi-dimensional and complex. Ladies, never forget that your true power lies not in what's found at the meeting of your thighs, but in what's going on between your ears. So while BBW may stand for big beautiful woman, it can also stand for bold boss woman, or brace brilliant woman, or bookish blessed woman....at the same damn time!!! So whether you've got cake by the pound ( or by the quarter pound), love yourself, know your worth, and just b girl!!!
